June 3, 2006 - Toll collection for the eastbound lanes of the Tacoma Narrows bridge will occur in two ways: 1- Cash collected at toll booths, and 2- electronic collection via an Electronic Sticker called the Good To Go! E-Sticker. The registered car owner(s) will adhere their E-Sticker on the windshield of their vehicle and be allowed to use the far left Good To Go! Express Lanes for FASTER, SAFER, RELIABLE Commuting. This will allow us to pay our tolls without stopping, automatically, convienently, without fumbling for change, and without even thinking. How thoughtful of our government. There is a limited queueing area for eastbound vehicles waiting to pay their toll with CASH. In fact, I have heard it will hold just over 300 vehicles before the overflow spills out onto the express lanes of Highway 16 Eastbound. When the queue exceeds the 300+ vehicle capacity then it begins to impact the vehicles traveling through the Good to Go! Express Lanes. The WSDOT, Washington Department of Transportation, was expecting that by the end of May 2006, there should have been over 20,000 commuters registered on the http://wsdot.wa.gov/goodtogo website to receive news about updates and additional benefits that we commuters should know about. A response of this level was expected by the state since the voters were all onboard concerning the approval of this new bridge and its benefit to all of the commuters. Sorry folks, this is not the case. I have heard there are apparently less than 1,000 registrations currently logged as of the end of May, 2006. If this pattern continues to be the case, then next year the traffic jams leading up to the Tacoma Narrows bridge will likely be heavier than planned or currently experienced. RESULT: Predictable Grid Lock leaving Gig Harbor into Tacoma every day that more than 400 drivers simultaneously decide they are paying cash for their tolls. Are we having fun yet? If you would like some additional information from the State of Washington, you can go to their web site at:

Another interesting WSDOT Site is the Projects website:
